27. Parasite

Parasite is a complete emotional roller coaster from start to finish. Set in South Korea, Parasite is a superb social commentary on class dynamics globally. The film, which has English subtitles as it is performed in the South Korean language, assesses the differences in attitudes between the rich and the poor and the consequences of extreme wealth as well as the desperation of those who are impoverished. Bong Joon Ho had the key roles in the creation and delivery of the film, as he was the director, writer and did the screenplay.

Parasite stars Kang-ho Song, Sun-kyun Lee and Yeo-jeong Cho. I thoroughly enjoyed Parasite and this film is without a doubt a thriller and has been referred to by some movie watchers as a horror. Whether you are into thrillers or not I would suggest everyone watches Parasite because it offers a cinematic masterpiece that is not over the top and is a well told story. This film is a story which stays with you and Parasite has moments which quite possibly could leave you sleeping with the lamp on for a few nights, but it is worth the sacrifice.

At the Oscars Parasite took home 4, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screen Play. I scored this film an excellent 80/100 for how it had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through and has stayed with me and the people I have spoken to about it. I cannot recommend Parasite (2019) enough!
